Meet Coleus 'Ox Blood': rich, deep burgundy-red foliage that contrasts with green companions and makes a focal point in any bed, border or container.
WHAT ARRIVES
2 live starter plugs, each approximately 8 to 10 inches tall. Because these plants are grown from cuttings, size can vary slightly from one plug to the next.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE
Coleus is considered toxic to dogs, cats and horses if eaten, per the ASPCA, and can cause vomiting or diarrhea. Keep it out of reach of pets, children and grazing animals.
WHERE IT SHINES
Borders, beds, containers and hanging baskets, especially next to lime-green or silver plants. Space plants 12 to 15 inches apart.
GROWING IT
Plant in part to full shade in well-drained soil kept evenly moist. It's heat tolerant. Pinch off flower spikes as they form to keep it full. It grows compact and bushy, about 12 to 18 inches tall.
CLIMATE
Perennial in USDA zones 10 to 11. Elsewhere, grow it as a summer annual or bring it indoors before frost.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The dark color holds well in shade, so it's a reliable color boost where flowers struggle.
