Meet Passiflora 'Lady Margaret': a fast-growing hybrid passionflower with dramatic raspberry-red blooms from spring into fall.

WHAT ARRIVES
2 live starter plugs, each approximately 10 to 12 inches tall, rooted and actively growing. Plant them near a trellis, fence or arch once your last frost has passed.

PET NOTE
Passionflower (Passiflora) isn't listed in the ASPCA plant database, so we can't make a pet-safety claim either way. If pets tend to chew on vines, check with your vet before planting it where they can reach.

WHERE IT SHINES
Trellises, fences and garden arches. Hummingbirds visit the flowers, and passionflowers are larval host plants for Gulf fritillary butterflies, so some chewed leaves are a good sign.

GROWING IT
Plant in full sun for the most flowers; it tolerates part shade. Use well-drained soil with steady moisture while it establishes. It's a vigorous climber that can grow 10 feet or more in a season, so give it a sturdy support.

CLIMATE
Perennial in USDA zones 9 to 11. Thanks to its cold-hardy maypop parent, it may die back and regrow from the roots in zone 8 with winter mulch, though results vary. In cooler zones, grow it as a summer annual or in a container brought indoors before frost.

WHAT TO EXPECT
'Lady Margaret' is a cross between the tropical red passionflower (Passiflora coccinea) and the native maypop (Passiflora incarnata). Young plugs climb first and flower more heavily once established.
