Meet Lantana 'Tangerine': a tough, heat-loving shrub covered in clusters of vivid orange flowers from summer until the first frost, drawing butterflies and hummingbirds all season.

WHAT ARRIVES
2 live starter plugs, each approximately 8 to 10 inches tall, rooted and actively growing. Plant them in the ground, a raised bed or a large container once your last frost has passed.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE
The ASPCA lists lantana (Lantana camara) as toxic to dogs, cats and horses, with vomiting, diarrhea and weakness among the possible signs, and liver damage in serious cases, especially in grazing livestock. The unripe green berries are the most toxic part. Leaves can irritate sensitive skin. Keep it out of reach of pets, children and grazing animals.

WHERE IT SHINES
Sunny beds, borders, slopes and large containers in hot, dry spots where other plants struggle. Butterflies and hummingbirds visit the flowers all season.

GROWING IT
Plant in full sun, at least 6 hours a day, in well-drained soil. Water regularly while plants establish, then cut back; lantana blooms best when it isn't pampered. It grows wider than tall, typically 2 to 4 feet tall with a 3- to 5-foot spread, so give it room. A light trim after a flush of flowers encourages fresh growth and more blooms.

CLIMATE
Perennial in USDA zones 8 to 11. In zones 8 and 9, it may die back in frost and regrow from the roots in spring. In colder areas, grow it in a container or as a heat-tough summer annual.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Young plugs fill out and bloom more heavily once established. In warm regions, Lantana camara can spread by seed, so removing spent flower clusters helps keep it in place and limits berries.
