Meet Lantana 'Trailing White': a low, cascading lantana covered in crisp white flower clusters from spring until the first frost, spilling over baskets, walls and sunny beds.
WHAT ARRIVES
2 live starter plugs with stems approximately 12 inches long, rooted and actively growing. Because these are living plants, size can vary slightly from one plug to the next.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE
Like other lantanas, Lantana montevidensis is considered toxic to dogs, cats and horses if eaten, with vomiting, diarrhea and labored breathing among the possible symptoms. The leaves and sap can irritate skin, so wear gloves when pruning. Keep it out of reach of pets, children and grazing animals.
WHERE IT SHINES
Hanging baskets, wall planters, raised beds and sunny groundcover. Butterflies visit the flowers all season, and hummingbirds stop by too.
GROWING IT
Plant in full sun, with at least 6 hours of direct light, in well-drained soil. Water regularly while plants establish, then reduce watering; established plants handle heat, humidity, drought and coastal salt spray well. Each plant stays low, about 1 to 1.5 feet tall, while spreading 3 to 5 feet wide.
CLIMATE
Perennial in USDA zones 8 to 11. In zone 8, it dies back to the ground in winter and resprouts in spring if mulched. Farther north, grow it as a trailing summer annual or in a container brought indoors for winter.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Young plugs fill out and bloom more heavily once they establish. Once settled, white flower clusters cover the plant from spring through frost.
