Meet Coleus 'Rustic Orange': a warm blend of orange, red and gold foliage with green edges, bold in shade and tolerant of some sun.
WHAT ARRIVES
2 live starter plugs, each approximately 5 inches tall. Because these plants are grown from cuttings, size can vary slightly from one plug to the next.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE
Coleus is considered toxic to dogs, cats and horses if eaten, per the ASPCA, and can cause vomiting or diarrhea. Keep it out of reach of pets, children and grazing animals.
WHERE IT SHINES
Beds, containers and hanging baskets in shade or morning sun. Space plants 12 to 15 inches apart. Deer tend to leave it alone.
GROWING IT
Plant in part to full shade, or morning sun with afternoon shade. Keep the soil evenly moist; it's fairly drought tolerant once established but looks best with steady water. Pinch off flower spikes as they form. It grows mounding and compact, about 12 to 18 inches tall.
CLIMATE
Perennial in USDA zones 10 to 11. Elsewhere, grow it as a summer annual or bring it indoors before frost.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The orange deepens with more light. These are small plugs, so give them a few weeks to fill out.
