Product Dimensions:
Meet Coleus 'Alabama Sunset': a sun-tolerant coleus with crimson-red leaves edged in gold, grown for bold, season-long color in beds, borders and containers.
WHAT ARRIVES
2 live starter plugs, each approximately 10 to 12 inches tall. Because these plants are grown from cuttings, size and color intensity can vary slightly from one plug to the next.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE
Coleus is considered toxic to dogs, cats and horses if eaten, per the ASPCA. It can cause vomiting or diarrhea; it's rarely serious, but keep it out of reach of pets, children and grazing animals.
WHERE IT SHINES
Sunny or partly shaded borders, beds and containers where you want warm color all season. Its red and gold tones pair well with dark foliage and purple or yellow flowers.
GROWING IT
Plant in full sun to part shade in average, well-drained soil kept evenly moist; don't let it dry out completely. In very hot climates, afternoon shade keeps the leaves from scorching. Space plants 15 to 18 inches apart. Each plant grows 24 to 36 inches tall and 15 to 24 inches wide.
CLIMATE
Perennial in USDA zones 10 to 11. In colder areas, grow it as a summer annual, or bring it indoors to a bright spot before the first frost.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Leaf color changes with light: more sun brings deeper red, and more shade brings more gold and copper. New growth often starts out yellow. Pinch off the lavender flower spikes as they form to keep the plant bushy and focused on foliage.
