Meet Dipladenia 'Red Riding Hood': a compact, bushy mandevilla with deep red trumpet flowers, made for pots and baskets.
WHAT ARRIVES
2 live starter plugs, each approximately 5 inches tall, rooted and actively growing. Because these are living plants, size can vary slightly from one plug to the next.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE
Mandevilla isn't listed by the ASPCA, but like other dogbane-family plants, its milky sap can upset the stomach and irritate skin. Wear gloves and keep it away from pets and kids.
WHERE IT SHINES
Its compact, bushy habit suits patio pots, hanging baskets and window boxes.
GROWING IT
Plant in full sun to light shade in rich, well-drained soil. Water regularly, then let it dry slightly between waterings.
CLIMATE
Compact and bushy, about 1 to 2 feet, with little need for a trellis. Perennial in USDA zones 10 to 11.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It blooms from spring through fall in warm weather.
