Meet Yellow Dragon Fruit: often considered the sweetest dragon fruit, with smaller fruit than red types, spiny yellow skin whose spines brush off when ripe, and translucent white flesh.
WHAT ARRIVES
2 live starter plugs, each approximately 8 to 10 inches tall. Because these plants are grown from cuttings, size can vary slightly from one plug to the next.
PET NOTE
Dragon fruit isn't listed in the ASPCA plant database, so we can't make a pet-safety claim either way. The stems have small spines, so handle them with gloves.

Sturdy post-and-frame trellises in sunny gardens, or large containers with support.
GROWING IT
Plant in full sun in fast-draining soil, and build a sturdy post and frame for support; stems grow upright before spreading over the top. Water moderately and let the soil dry between waterings, since overwatering and heavy rain can cause flower drop and fruit rot.
CLIMATE
Perennial outdoors in USDA zones 10 to 11. It's more cold-sensitive than red dragon fruit, so protect it below about 40°F, or grow it in a container brought indoors.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It's self-fertile, so one plant can fruit on its own. Plants usually start fruiting once they're mature and well supported, often within a few years. Fruit takes longer to ripen than red varieties.
